LX Living is being developed as a joint venture between Neworld, a European-domiciled entity established by John Rabie, one of South Africa’s leading developers, and Swiss-based real estate developer GMG Real Estate, with major capital investment from global wealth management company, Skybound Capital.

John Rabie established Neworld to spearhead his residential and mixed-use developments outside of South Africa.

John has a long and highly successful track record as a developer. He co-founded Rabie Property Group, one of South Africa’s leading independent developers, in 1978. The company‘s pioneering mixed-use developments, which include Marconi Beam, Royal Ascot, Westlake Estate, Big Bay and Century City have changed the face of Cape Town and won many local and international awards.

The exceptional success of Century City, a 250-hectare New Urban Estate ten kilometres from the Cape Town CBD, has resulted in the conversion of more than one million square metres of bulk to a basket of commercial, residential and retail opportunities, and is currently home to approximately 25 000 permanent residents.

In 2012, John Rabie launched his private label brand, Signatura, to focus on high-end residential and mixed-use developments in the City Bowl and the Atlantic Seaboard. To date, Signatura has successfully executed 27 projects with a value in excess of R3-billion.

GMG has an impressive track record of investment and value creation in urban mixed-use real estate in the UK, Switzerland, Germany and Portugal. Since inception, GMG Real Estate and its partners have successfully transacted on 29 assets representing a market value of approximately € 2 billion.

Neworld has recently joined forces with GMG to focus on development opportunities in the Portuguese and other European residential and mixed-use markets. The aim is to leverage the significant footprint of GMG in Portugal and select European real estate markets through John Rabie’s proven development expertise.
